53. Pelion - Fakistra Beach

Çap edildi: 01.05.2023

53. Tag: As we want to mitigate the effects of the bad weather front approaching here, we have left Euboea and moved northwards to Pelion. Pelion, called Pilio here, is according to Greek mythology the home of the Centaurs. And indeed, when driving through this area, one can understand how someone came up with this idea. The vegetation is extremely dense, wild and lush. So far, we have experienced Greece as very green, but this tops everything in this regard.

Travelling on Pelion is exhausting because the peninsula rises steeply out of the water. That means the roads are very curvy and full of hairpin bends. But at least the main roads are in good condition and have two lanes.

Our first destination of the day is Fakistra Beach. You park with the car about 100 meters above sea level. We stay two curves further up because we expect a bit more traffic due to the holiday. A well-prepared, but sometimes steep path leads downhill. When we catch sight of the beach for the first time, we fall in love immediately. What a special place! During a conversation with 3 German medical students, Birgit says hours later: Every single rock here has something special. The others nod in agreement.

We enjoy the place until the sun disappears behind the mountain. The rest is told by the pictures.

Tomorrow we want to experience the sunrise at the nearby Milopotamus Beach, so we drive to the associated parking lot. Although the straight line distance between the two beaches is less than two kilometers, we still have a cumbersome journey of over half an hour.
