Day 22 - September 25, 2023 Alaverdi Monastery, Gremi Fortress and drive to Lagodekhi

The journey to the east continues. We first visit the Alaverdi Monastery. Founded in the 4th century, the newer, 11th century cathedral is the third largest church in Georgia. Impressive architecture and rich jewelry inside. Then we visit Telavi. On a short tour we get an idea of the lively place, do some shopping and exchange money. As we continue our journey we pass Gremi Fortress. The Archangel Church dates from the 16th century, and from the bell tower you have a great view over the Alazani Plain. Then we reach Lagodekhi with the national park of the same name. We go to the Organic Yard Farm (park4night). But the whole thing turns out to be a festival area. We are allowed to stand not far from the stage. Viktor organizes a Blues Festival here every Saturday from mid-July to the end of August. He provides us with home-pressed, Georgian-style wine and great music. We didn't have to pay anything, Viktor just said: Guests are gifts from God and they have to be honored.
