The Planetarium in Hilo and the Pahoa Lava Flow

Çap edildi: 22.02.2018

Rain!!! It would have been nice to go for a swim, but it's pouring.

So we're heading to the Planetarium and Astronomy Museum in Hilo. Irene highly recommended it and it's truly a highlight!

With great technical effort, the formation of the Pacific islands, especially Hawaii, is depicted. There are also extensive presentations on the work of astronomers on Mauna Kea and why this mountain is particularly suitable for gazing into the universe. This is due to its height, as well as the very clean air (due to air currents) and the absence of disturbances from human influences (light pollution).

After touring the museum and watching a show at the planetarium, we witness a wedding couple celebrating in the museum.

We also visit Pahoa, where a few years ago the lava flow stopped in the middle of the town. It's truly unimaginable, threatened by tsunamis on the side facing the ocean and by the volcano on land. One must have a great deal of will to live!
