Aarhus - City of the Future?! And a Trip to Legoland!

Çap edildi: 21.09.2016

Actually, I wanted to write another blog post after Lukas visited me. But since so much has happened since the last post, there will be a small post today. I prefer to make several smaller posts so that there is not too much information at once and the post doesn't become too long(boring).

So let's get started:

Last Friday, I went with a few girls to the 'Free Yoga in the Park'. An American guy occasionally offers free yoga classes here for anyone who wants to join - simply because he enjoys it. We took advantage of the opportunity and happily practiced our moon salutations (not sun salutations, because it was full moon), tree poses, and other contortions in the green. And all this on a meadow with a view of the sea! The motto of the day: 'Why so serious?' Here in Aarhus, you're just not supposed to take life too seriously, accept yourself, do what makes you feel good, and above all have fun, says the lovely yoga teacher.

We had a lot of fun this weekend! On Sunday, the whole international crew went to Legoland Billund. Since Lego comes from Denmark, a visit to the first and oldest Legoland (opened in 1968) was a must! For those who know Legoland Deutschland in Günzburg, this was nothing new. Nevertheless, it was a great day with lots of sun, fun, and games! The lovely Grace from Taiwan even made a short video, which you can watch here.

Thanks Grace for this beautiful piece of art!

Another attraction that I would like to show you is DOKK1 in Aarhus: a mixture of library, civic center, and cultural center. Here you can not only read or meet up to study, but also play video games on an old Super Nintendo, apply for a new passport or use other citizen services, arrange playdates with other families and their children, attend workshops, repair your own bike in a repair café (which I actually did), or simply enjoy a coffee and the view of the port of Aarhus. Books play a rather subordinate role here.

As you might notice, DOKK1 is more than just a boring library, but the epitome of modern communication in the city. It is more of a 'Community Center' that also emphasizes family friendliness. There are very large areas dedicated to families and children. By the way, DOKK1 was voted the most beautiful and best public library in the world this year!

You can watch a video about it here.

If you ever come to Aarhus, you should definitely check out DOKK1! But there are also so many beautiful places and interesting things to see here. I will do my best and not miss anything. :)
