It's completely stupid, but if you want to see Moraine Lake near the equally famous Lake Louise, you have to be there by 8am at the latest. After that, the parking lots are full and the access road is closed. That's what happened to us in 2015. This time we wanted to see the lake, which meant leaving at 6am because we live an hour's drive away. Said and done, everything went well. We got a parking spot. The lake is incredibly beautiful. No wonder everyone wants to go there. What can I say, look at the photos. The pictures are all so different because the weather kept changing. It even snowed briefly at one point. We decided not to go to Lake Louise, the line for the parking lot was endless (and we already saw the lake in 2015 in sunny weather 😄). A shuttle bus system would certainly be a better alternative for both lakes - I believe so.
Afterwards, we drove to Banff, a real tourist town. In the same pub where we watched the women's soccer World Cup in Canada in 2015, we now watched Argentina: Nigeria. It was funny because there was an Argentine sitting in front of us, shouting at the television and Messi. Some older Canadians felt disturbed, but we found it funny.
And off we went to the Takakkaw Falls. Sandra and I always look left and right in the car to see if we can spot any wildlife. And we were so lucky: a grizzly bear 🐻! Almost all to ourselves, no line of cars on the highway. However, we couldn't stop quickly enough, so we turned around (of course at legal places) and hoped that the bear would still be there. And he was there. It was wonderful! The bear was very close to the fence and we could observe him wonderfully.
Unfortunately, after a few minutes, a car stopped behind us and after a few more minutes, an idiot got out of the car and wanted to take photos right at the fence. The bear got scared and whoosh, he was gone. The guy said "sorry" briefly, we were really angry, but the bear was gone. Why don't people who go to a national park understand that the park is for the animals and we are allowed to observe them there, but not disturb them??!! Besides, it is of course dangerous to get so close to a grizzly bear, the wildlife fence is not an obstacle for him. Sometimes you catch yourself not feeling sorry if ....
So we went to the waterfalls and because we had to drive past them anyway, we went to Emerald Lake again.
What can I say, a great day with great experiences and the beautiful landscape in Canada 🇨🇦.
