Who goes to Milan in June, in this heat? In fact, contrary to expectations, we had pleasant summer temperatures. But in this article I will link you to recommendations of where to go in Milan if it is too hot or rainy.

But first, let's look at the city itself. With 1.3 million inhabitants, Milan is the second largest city in Italy. So it's already very busy here. And there are lots of tourists from all over the world. But they concentrate on the main attractions on the Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square). Here you will find the Duomo, of course, but also the famous shopping arcade Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Anyone who loves crowds will feel very comfortable here. But you have to see it for yourself. What I can definitely recommend, despite the entrance fee, is a visit to the roof terrace of the Duomo. You have to reserve tickets online in advance. It's not cheap. We bought a combined ticket with a tour of the Duomo itself. Despite having a reservation, you still have to queue beforehand. This is due to the extensive checks at the entrance. By the way, your arms and legs have to be covered. Anyone who is dressed too lightly will be given a wrap.

There is an elevator to the roof (you have to specify this when booking), but you have to walk down. But it's worth it. The view is sensational! I would of course recommend checking the weather forecast before booking. It's probably only half as nice if it rains.

We can also recommend a ride on one of the old trams. They are almost 100 years old and are still in regular service. They rattle quite loudly and when the doors open and close, you feel a bit like you are in an old horror film where an (angry) ghost slams a door.

And don't forget the train station on your sightseeing tour. I can't think of a time when I've been in such a large and impressive station building. It's a classic terminus station and it was opened in 1931. It reminded me a bit of the Leipzig train station, but there's more to see here in Milan than there. All these halls, plus shopping arcades, everything is very monumental. Despite the building's age, everything also looks modern because there are lots of electronic advertisements. They're just huge and it all seems a bit like something out of a science fiction film.

Otherwise, you can just stroll through the city and let yourself go. You will inevitably pass the Castello and the Arco della Pace (triumphal arch).
