Day 2 started with a change of accommodation. Previously, it was a luxurious hotel, but now I was staying in a single room in a hostel. The location was great, close to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque and Hagia Sophia. However, the facilities were sparse and not very thorough. But I didn't mind and on the first day, I went towards the two mosques and their grounds. Here, I discovered that the queue for the Basilica Cistern, a huge underground reservoir beneath the square and streets, was not too long. Inside, I was greeted by an ancient column structure surrounded by stored water, which created an impressive atmosphere with changing lights. I then continued with the tram towards the Galata Bridge. Under the bridge, there are a variety of restaurants, and I noticed the sheer number of fishing lines hanging down from the bridge. When I reached the upper part, it became clear why, as almost every free spot was occupied by a fisherman. After crossing the bridge, I enjoyed a delicious fish sandwich from a small snack stand.
In the late evening, I went to the Galata Tower, which took me up above the rooftops of the city for 150 Lira. Whether looking across the canal towards the Asian side or towards Europe, the city seems to neverending :)
