A stop in Georgetown on the island of Penang is a must for us. We take the ferry from Butterworth... The ticket, including the return journey, costs us three 3 Ringgit (1€ = 4.75 Ringgit).

Georgetown fascinates us with its multicultural mix of people.... Malays, Indians, Chinese. Although it feels like the Chinese are in the majority and most of the shops and hotels are run by them.

When we arrive, it's somehow different. Due to the construction of two new bridges connecting the mainland and the island, the streets of Georgetown are overcrowded with cars. The flair from 5 years ago is gone. It's just exhausting. In the familiar "Lovelane" we have booked a room again. However, the formerly relaxed "Lovelane" has now become a party mile with countless bars advertising "Happy Hour Beer"...not for us. The next day we move to a slightly quieter area.

We stroll through the city. In addition to the Chinese, Buddhist and Hindu temples, there are also mosques in the European-influenced streets.

Because of Taipusam, the largest Hindu festival celebrated at full moon, the faithful gather in the city center for the ceremonies during these days...it's impossible to get through. The upcoming Chinese New Year🈲 is also being prepared... Special offers in the shops and shopping malls attract people to joyful shopping 🛒...similar to the pre-Christmas time with us.

Ey cool Paul. Hast Du Mr. Bean getroffen ;)? Mensch. Englischer Humor dort unten...
