The first two weeks in Pittsburgh are already over. As you can imagine, the time flew by. Between the first purchases, clothes, jackets, suitcases, etc., Julian started work on Monday, June 3rd. In short: He had a great start! Very nice colleagues, interesting new tasks and a generally very pleasant working atmosphere. Since we don't want to become complete polluters here, Julian takes the bus to work every day and Tanja does as many things as possible on foot. We still want to buy second-hand bikes because, contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of bike paths here in Pittsburgh! Of course, we want to use them too.
Now back to the actual topic. You are probably all wondering how our everyday life here in the
USA goes. Just like at home, we quickly developed a routine here. Julian's alarm goes off at 7:00 a.m. Then he takes the bus to work. He is back around 5:00 p.m., sometimes earlier, sometimes later. But what does Tanja do in the meantime? So far there is still a lot to do. Shopping, sorting things out with the bank (Tanja seems to be a permanent guest at PNC Bank because something always goes wrong), doing sports, planning vacations, planning visits, cooking and creating our photo books. Last but not least, just being wifey (@Anne 😏) and enjoying our free time. When Julian is back from work, we explore Pittsburgh, go jogging, to the gym or, like many people, go to the river triangle (Golden Triangle) and spend the evening there (great view & amazing sunset).
We currently spend our weekends shopping and sightseeing. Last week, for example, we were in the so-called Strip District. This is known for its many small shops, cafes and restaurants. Incidentally, there is a Pittsburgh fan shop for the football, baseball and ice hockey teams (Pittsburgh Steelers/Pirates/Penguins) every 20 meters. Of course, we couldn't just walk past them. Since it's baseball season right now, we bought some nice Pittsburgh Pirates fan shirts so we can really cheer at the games!
We actually think baseball is pretty cool. We've already watched a game and were able to cheer on a home run... Woohooo! America is known for the fact that fireworks are a must at every event. That's why there's a small fireworks display at every Pirates home run and a big fireworks display every few months after a game. We were lucky enough to experience both.
Now that the first two weeks are over, travel fever is flaring up again today!🔥 Julian's brother Florian is coming to visit us for a few days starting today. The three of us are going to Shenandoah National Park! With hiking backpacks, cameras and of course Wizzard in our luggage, we're setting off this afternoon as soon as Florian has flown into Pittsburgh. In the next post for you, it's "Nature's calling!" The next few days will be green, sunny, hot and mountainous!
See you soon!
