Today, on the recommendation of Aleks, I take the train for about 1.5 hours to Dovaca, and from there I take the free shuttle to the Skocjan Caves. In the shuttle, I meet Gustavo from Brazil, who describes himself as anti-social but is a very nice company for the cave tour.
We join a tour that goes through the part with a waterfall. The atmosphere becomes more and more impressive as we get closer to the waterfall. Since no photos are allowed in the cave, I can fully absorb the impressions in the gigantic cave.
Another part leads outside, where I can take a few photos.
It was also worth the trip to a viewpoint. If I had more time and maybe more suitable clothing, I would have liked to walk the circular path, but it was too risky for me because of the shuttle and the train back to Ljubljana.
Suddenly, a conductor from another platform calls out to me, asking where I'm going. It turns out that I have to go back to the first platform. When I rush over there, the train leaves right in front of my nose. Personally, I already knew at that moment that I had missed it. However, a few 14-year-old boys run like crazy to the front to give a signal to the train driver to stop. Even though the train is getting faster and faster, they don't give up and actually get the train driver to stop again so that I can still get on the train. It's amazing how much the boys have put in effort, and all I can do is shout 'Hvala' (Thank you) before I get on the train.
On the way back from Ljubljana Station to the hostel, I borrow a bike until the next morning. As soon as I sit on the saddle, I already feel at home. It's incredible how having a bike suddenly makes you feel at home in a foreign city :)
