On Monday morning, we should continue towards our final destination - Lake Garda.
Since we had only reserved our campsite in Malcesine from Tuesday, we were not sure where the day or the night would take us, so we roughly entered the destination "Cannes" into our navigation system. The journey there was this time very lengthy but also very beautiful. In the evening, we arrived in Cannes and parked directly at the harbor to explore the city and admire some of the amazing yachts. In a nice restaurant, we settled down for dinner and each ate a huge mountain of mussels, which filled us up. Not to forget the delicious baguette, of which we really couldn't get enough. After strolling through the town for a while, we went back to the parking lot and continued driving towards Lake Garda until around 1 am. Since the parking lots on the highways were not inviting, we decided to exit the highway and find a quiet spot to close our eyes for a few hours. Those few hours turned into an extended nap, and so we didn't continue until 7 am in the morning. In the daylight, we saw in which beautiful small Italian coastal town chance had brought us. The sunrise added the finishing touch to an already beautiful place, and we enthusiastically started our final sprint 😍
Despite the increased traffic that generally prevails on the Gardesana road shortly before our destination of Malcesine during the summer, we decided to enjoy the view and accept the additional 30 minutes - due to the detour and the traffic jam. Our anticipation grew, and we were very happy when we finally arrived at our campsite "Camping Claudia" in the Campagnola district. After checking in and finding our spot, we had to think for a moment about the best way to position our Carlo. On the one hand, we wanted the beautiful view and the sun on our faces, while on the other hand, sleeping in a comfortable position and easily extending our rear extension were important. After much tinkering and a nerve-wracking half-hour, even for our neighbors, the van was securely parked on its chocks 💪🏼
We made ourselves comfortable on our pitch and went back to the lake in the evening so that Hinnerk could finally test his SUP. Since we didn't feel like walking to the town in the evening, we had a nice portion of pasta in the restaurant next door. When we returned to the campsite, our neighbors had already retracted their awning, while a very young group of boys next to us was already staying in their car 😂 We suspected that a storm was approaching, but we didn't let that bother us. We sat outside for a few more hours before going to bed. The weather was a bit windy but otherwise quiet - the boys were still in the car.
In the night, it actually became very stormy, and a few glasses found their way from our table, but our awning stood up to the storm without any further measures taken 👏
