Dirk and Klaus have arrived in the Netherlands. Here is a brief travel report from the two of them: when you think of Holland and cycling, you imagine wide, well-developed and flat cycling paths. And that's exactly what we saw when we left the ferry from England in Hoek van Holland. It was the same until The Hague, but on the second day we got to know the dune belt on the west coast. Up and down we went through dune landscapes covered alternately with grass, pine or heather, which stretch all the way to Den Helder. But one thing was also noticeable: free-roaming horses and highland cattle meet you on the way and are in no way disturbed by us. They lie on and beside the path and carry out their task of keeping the vegetation short!
Driving on the right side takes some getting used to! After the ferry, we often found ourselves on the left side of the road!
During the trip through the country, we noticed that the crops here look very good. The system with which the farmers drain the land is also used for irrigation. The water is pumped from the large rivers into the small ditches that flow around the fields. The water is pumped from them.
