11. Dubrovnik

11th Day: Today we took a journey back in time to the Middle Ages by immersing ourselves in the old town of Dubrovnik. The fortress, which was created in the Middle Ages as the last stronghold to protect against invaders from the East, has been preserved almost completely. When entering the old town through one of the city gates, one steps into a different era. Leaving behind the noise of traffic and hustle and bustle, one absorbs the evidence of a bygone era.

We start with a tour of the fully preserved, approximately 2 km long city walls. At the ticket counter, we are brought back to the present when we are charged 35 euros per person for admission. However, the tour itself was the highlight of our excursion. From up here, we have a good overview of the fortress and its surroundings. Furthermore, it is very peaceful up here (at least today).

After over 2 hours on the rooftops of the old town, we visit the most important attractions on the ground and stroll through some of the countless narrow alleyways.

We end the day with delicious fish specialties at the fish bar El Pulpo. We spend the night in front of the closed gates of the Solitudo campsite in Dubrovnik. This is also where we parked all day. We took the bus to the old town.
