Owhiro Bay

The next morning I got up early, packed my things, filled up the tank, and for the first time tried to refill my water tank at a gas station. Fortunately, Rainer had picked out an adapter for the tap so that I could connect my hose to any faucet. I really needed that adapter right away. The next problem was that I couldn't turn on the tap and hold the hose at the water tank at the same time, to keep the hose from slipping out of the tank. But with two clothes pegs, I could secure the hose at the tank and then comfortably turn the tap on and off.

After that, I took the ferry for 3.5 hours from Picton to Wellington and immediately headed for the Freedom camping site in Wellington. Unfortunately, this campsite was already fully booked, probably with people who wanted to take the ferry to Picton the next morning. So, I continued on to Owhiro Bay and spent the night there. This Freedom camping place was much nicer than the one in Wellington, so it wasn't hard for me to stay longer. Somehow, I was also so exhausted from the change in travel style that I spent the first day just planning my route, reading, and relaxing.

The next day, I took a short hike along the coast to Devil's Gate and even saw a seal along the way. For the return journey, I wanted to take a different path that passes by various viewpoints, but unfortunately, it was closed. In the evening, I also walked a bit in the other direction along the coast: firstly, because the reception in the bay was so poor that otherwise I couldn't have called Markus. Secondly, there are said to be penguins there in the evening. Unfortunately, I didn't see any.
