So my dear ones,
since I always had to report everything individually to everyone so far and that is very time-consuming, I decided to use this blog.
After a long flight, we finally arrived in Auckland after over 30 hours. A little confused by the left-hand traffic here, we were taken to our hostel, where we fell asleep first. We spent the first 3 nights in a 4-bed room with two other girls from Hamburg, one of whom I already knew. All in all, I didn't like Auckland that much because it's just a huge city and doesn't quite match the ideal I had in mind of New Zealand. The harbor is beautiful and the people were very nice, but it was just like Chinatown. On the last day, we climbed Mount Eden, which is at the edge of the city, and had a beautiful view from there.
Thursday evening, we drove from Auckland to Whangarei, which is further north. The place is known for its waterfalls, which we looked at yesterday. From there, we hiked to a viewpoint for 3 hours, which was really exhausting. However, it was definitely worth it for the view. On the way back, we hitchhiked because we were just too tired to walk the same route back again. In the evening, we relaxed our muscles in the hot tub and then went to bed.
Today we are just relaxing in the city a bit and organizing some things before we head further north to Paihia tomorrow. This is located even further north and on the stunning Bay of Islands.
The YHA hostel here in Whangarei is a family business and simply cozy. There is also a cat on the premises, and everyone who knows me can imagine how happy that makes me alone. The New Zealanders - or Kiwis - have been very nice so far and earlier we were given a beer by the women when hitchhiking into the city 🍻
