Auf den Spuren der Aborigines

Today it will be decided whether we can continue driving with our patched tires or not. Brian, the "man for all cases" of the resort, wants to take a look at them again. The men have to get up at 6.00 am for this (Brian comes so early), while we women turn around in bed again. He finds a leak in the tire we now want to use as a spare. He takes the tire and sticks a patch on the inside of the hole. So there is nothing standing in the way of our departure tomorrow.

Unlucky events rarely come alone. When we want to start our activities today, I leave the house last. Nowhere can I see a key, so I turn the latch inside and close the door from the outside. It turns out that no one has taken a key. How are we supposed to get back in now? There is no one at the reception, so we decide to drive off first.

We want to follow in the footsteps of the Aborigines. To do this, we circle Mount Augustus clockwise on the 49 km long Burringurrah Drive. It is also the access road for shorter and longer hiking trails that lead to the sights. At 36° C, we decide to only do the shorter hikes. Our first stop is Edney Spring, a permanent water source. Then we continue to Mundee, our first Aborigine track. On the overhanging rock wall, we discover drawings of the indigenous people. Unfortunately, they are already somewhat weathered. The next stop is Flintstone. The Flintstone Rock is a huge flat stone that lies across the creek bed. Under the rock, you can admire engravings of the Wajarri. There are bone remains lying around in a cave. Perhaps a place of worship? Günther "nibbles" at one and says, "The kangaroo tasted better once." The last station is The Pound, a natural basin that was used by cattle drivers on the way to Meekatharra as a watering hole and resting place. We walk past the pound at first and eventually turn back because the path seems too long. We then find a spot where it could be. These are enough Aboriginal tracks! All the paths are very well signposted, so no one can get lost in the Outback!

Back from our trip, we first go to the reception. But Kathy also doesn't have a key anymore. She gave us all the available ones. What now? The "all-purpose weapon" Brian is once again the savior in need. He climbs in through a window (no idea how he opens it) and opens the door from the inside. Now we need some coffee! We enjoy delicious chocolate cake.

We are also spoiled again for dinner - lamb chop, kangaroo burger, salad, tomatoes, and strawberries for dessert. Real 3-star cuisine in the Outback! Thanks also to Kathy for the really well-stocked fridge!

A few others have also lost their way in this solitude, including a German and a Swiss couple.
