Once again, it was time to set the alarm and wake up early. According to the travel provider's website, the shuttle bus to the airport was supposed to pick us up at 7:35 am. So we decided to check out at 6:30 am and then read the latest news on our phones in the lobby before we become unreachable again for the whole day. At 7 o'clock, we quickly went to have breakfast to fuel up for the journey back home.
But then everything changed. We checked out and sat in the lobby when suddenly the shuttle bus driver came and told us that we would be picked up at 6:45 am. Feeling a bit disappointed because we couldn't eat anymore, we drove back to the airport for another 2 and a half hours. When we arrived at the airport, we could already see the line at the check-in counter and only one counter was open. So we joined the line. It was moving slowly and the line behind us kept growing longer. And when the system went down, I started getting nervous. But after a whole hour, we made it through. My daughter grabbed something to eat at Burger King and then we went to the passport control and security check. When we arrived at the gate, I was starting to get hungry and I got myself a sandwich. I decided to get a drink on the plane because I found it ridiculously expensive (4.50€ for a 0.5 l cola) at the Antalya airport.
And then it was time to board.
When I arrived at my seat on the plane, I was thrilled. Each seat had its own TV and they even showed German movies. I chose to watch "Uncharted" and looked forward to the flight. Everyone also received a pair of headphones as a gift, and then the safety announcement was shown on the screen. We took off almost on time. After about an hour, everyone even got a hot meal and something to drink. That's when I decided that I will only fly with Turkish Airlines in the future 😂😉.
After landing in Düsseldorf, we waited for our luggage for almost three-quarters of an hour, but given the news about the catastrophic conditions, we were just glad that it arrived at all.
We then took the train from Düsseldorf via Frankfurt Airport to Mainz, where my husband picked us up.
It was a very nice and relaxing vacation 🧳 in a hotel that I can highly recommend.
