Today, I had two destinations on my list: Peschiera del Garda and Sirmione.
So, it was off to the water. For a magnificent panorama and delightful weather.
Upon arriving in Peschiera del Garda, I was already captivated by the view. If I had known that it would get even better... But I'll share more in due time.
After taking a stroll by the water and through some small streets, it was time to continue to Sirmione. However, reaching this destination proved to be a challenge. The bus, which supposedly runs every hour, doesn't seem to adhere to its schedule. Of course, there’s a huge difference between German and Italian punctuality... Nevertheless, after waiting for over half an hour, I was tempted to consider another means of transportation, worried that the bus might not come at all. As is often the case: just when I had found the route to a bike rental, the bus rounded the corner, and so I ended up in Sirmione - albeit late but filled with anticipation.
From the center, I was whisked all the way to Castello Scaligero, where many charming little streets, antique shops, and cute cafes align. Unfortunately, my company on this journey was very fleeting. But that's how it goes with ice cream; I shouldn't be too disappointed. The view that opened up to me at the end of the peninsula was breathtaking. A brilliantly blue lake, and on the other side of the shore, the mountains. If it hadn't started to rain at some point, I would surely still be standing there just gazing over the water.
Thus, I made my way back to the center. While waiting for the bus, I spent some time in a café and tried the so-called 'Bacio di Sirmione' (Kiss of Sirmione). The name 'Bacio di zucchero' might suit it better, but they were indeed very delicious.
The bus remained true to its delay but still took me back to the destination Peschiera del Garda, from where I set off, after a brief shopping trip, towards the train station to head back to Verona.
Here, I wrapped up the evening with an Aperol, a good book, and a calzone (which I had been looking forward to since getting up!), so that I could start the next adventure refreshed tomorrow.
