Recognition value = brand value?

Bangkok Airways brings us to Phuket relaxed in an hour, still a taxi ride... and we are already at our domicile for the next few days in Patong Beach. It is early afternoon, so we quickly head to the pool. Lounge chairs with a sea view, a little snack, and a chilled drink. We enjoy ourselves! The waiter recognizes us from last year.

The evening program is already set: massage, dining on the beach, and then chilled drinks on the compact, gay entertainment street.

We enjoy dinner with a sea view and then take a stroll to Paradise Complex. First, we walk up and down the street to see what has changed in the past year. At the end of the street, we are quite surprised! The Boat Bar is closed, and the building is for sale. Actually not surprising... they have been doing poorly for years... but still, the Boat Bar is an institution... then our gaze falls on a building diagonally opposite. Oh look! The new Boat Bar... albeit more of a makeshift. To calm down, we have a glass of wine at ZAG Club. And of course, we watch the offered drag show. We have fun, but we also think that a little assistance from Fanny and Marco from Chapeau Claque would certainly not hurt. For inexplicable reasons, we get free drinks... well... it would be impolite to refuse!

For a nightcap, we go next door to the "new" Boat Bar. Here too, we are recognized and greeted by the owner. A tequila follows as a welcome drink. How nice! Unfortunately, the show has gotten even worse. We stagger home.

The next morning we feel... let's say... a bit worn out, but after breakfast we feel better already. We shouldn't pretend to be tired either, because we have a lot to do! Pool, beach, sea, audiobook, and we also have to visit the tailor today.

Even our tailor recognizes us, or at least he recognizes the creation on Puppe's upper body as his own. We quickly have a year's supply of shirts tailored to fit us. Puppe has been swearing by the dernier cri from Phuket for years, and last year I also developed a taste for it.

When even the regular staff of our preferred massage salon can remember us, we start to think about what leads to this recognition effect for us. Perhaps a recognition value can also be converted into a brand value. After Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have already registered the brand "Sussex Royal", we should probably quickly register "Püppi and Schnuck" as a brand too....

A day in Patong is similar to any other... during the day, beach and pool, and in the evening, massage, dining, drag shows, and plenty of free drinks. A good balance between relaxation and entertainment, which becomes a bit exhausting after a few days. That's why we are now withdrawing to the tranquil and peaceful Hua Hin.
