Day 17 - Surfing

வெளியிடப்பட்டது: 27.07.2017

After our usual hearty breakfast, all 5 of us went back to Carenero. The plan to go surfing was still uncertain because the surfboard rental on Carenero was technically open but practically closed...

So our private taxi took us to Carenero Island, where Miriam and I got off. We had all the luggage and secured a spot on the beach. The guys went on to the main island where they can rent boards at a hostel. After half an hour, 2/3 of the crew came back. We needed a credit card as security (350$ if you break a board...😮), let's see what gets bought with that throughout the day.

Another half an hour later, everyone came, along with 3 boards, and we were ready to go. The girls watched from the beach.

After 1 hour (it took 15 minutes just to paddle to the surf spot 😥), Roger came back completely exhausted. He paddled out on the wrong side and ended up in the pro area, not the best idea...after swallowing about 2 liters of saltwater, he made it back safely...

2 hours later, the other two came back and after a short rest for Louis, it was my turn. Learn the rules, paddle out, wait for a wave, paddle in, stand on the board, off I go. Unfortunately not, it took me 6 attempts just to get on my knees for a brief moment. At least the burpees and supermans from the past months had a purpose, big shout out to WeWorkOut 😂

Meanwhile, Benni was back, looking a bit better in the water 🌊 Eventually, I caught a good wave and rode it for about 10 seconds, not standing up, but half on my knees and half in a squat position 🙃 well, it was still fun!

All in all, it was really fun, but a lot of work for just a few seconds of fun...not to mention the sore muscles afterwards and the 100 scratches from rocks and coral reefs that we kept falling on!

Since we were in the water the whole time, only one picture today...
