Once with everything

Dear visitor to Berlin, when you leave the Mehringdamm subway station towards the tax office and town hall, as soon as you step onto the surface of the Earth, you will notice a queue of at least 150 meters long. You wonder why so many people are standing here and then, in the direction of about 300 people, you see a small snack bar with the words 'Mustafa's Veggie Kebab'. Ah! That's the famous kebab from the Lonely Planet and from about 1000 newspaper articles.

We have been living in Berlin for two years now and every time we go to Yorck-Kino, we think, 'What fools! Standing in line for a kebab for two hours! It can't be that good!' But there's still some doubt. And so it happened last Thursday that we queued up. It was too tempting, because there were only twenty people there. That's why it's easy for us to realize that we are the only locals. In front of us, an Englishman explains to a Spaniard how to pronounce Kreuzberg. Behind us, a father and son from Montreal are standing with us, holding a beer. Anyway, everyone except us has a beer or Club Mate in their hand and the bottle collectors swarm around us like cleaner fish.

Meanwhile, the queue has grown to normal length. Let's see how quickly the gyro slicers work. Well, the performance is rather modest. And everyone talks about this place? Of course, because the queue is part of the image! You won't get into every travel guide without it.

And the product. Well, not bad. The bun is good, the chicken meat tastes good, and the vegetable side dish is okay, plus there are some crumbs of feta cheese. Everything tastes even better because you've gotten really hungry while waiting in line.
