Budapest - Balkan trip 2019

வெளியிடப்பட்டது: 08.05.2023

Arrival

Flight with Eurowings from Düsseldorf for €85 per person. Departure in the early morning -> Landing after a little over 2 hours in Budapest at 08:40 local time. From the airport, take bus line 100E to the city center of Budapest for 900 HUF (about €2.75) per person. After a walk through the streets, we reached 'the gateway to the Balkans', the 'Keleti' railway station, where we locked up our trekking backpacks.

Attractions

From our starting point, the path led us to the artist district of Budapest, where we let various street art pieces impress us. Unfortunately, very beautiful artworks have to make way for housing shortage, so for example, the famous image of Buda and Pest was destroyed here.

However, after a short stop at the imposing parliament building, our path took us to the Fisherman's Bastion. From here, you can overlook the entire city. Here, as well as at all the attractions in Budapest, you have to consider that there are many tourists. From the Castle Palace, our way then led back towards the train station, as we were glad to take a break after this exhausting day.

At 23:00 we took a night bus to Belgrade, where our 2nd stop of the Balkan adventure was!

MENU

We enjoyed our lunch near 'Keleti', at www.huszar-etterem.hu. There we ordered a traditional Hungarian goulash soup and for dessert, 'Somlói Galsuka', a sponge cake with rum-sugar syrup and vanilla ice cream. Both tasted exceptionally good, no wonder both are national dishes of the Hungarians. We were also surprised by the price, in total we paid 4140 HUF (€12.51) for two people. After a little chat with the waiter about our journey, we made our way to the bus station.

Conclusion

Budapest is a worthwhile city, its architecture reminiscent of the buildings in Vienna. The people we met were mostly unfriendly to us, which surprised us a lot, so we were already looking forward to our stop in Belgrade. Nevertheless, we want to give the city another chance when we are well-rested!
