Through Champagne to the Seine and into northwestern Burgundy, Day 7

Monday, July 24, 2023, Day 7

We are at the end of the first week, tomorrow starts our second week. In the first week, we covered over 500 km from Cologne, have now crossed through Champagne and are in northwestern Burgundy.

Today we started our day in drizzling rain and only drove 500 m to the first café at the Grand Place in the village. We wanted to take advantage of the fact that we stumbled upon a village that actually has a café. A popular café where locals meet in the morning and drink yellow Belgian hop soda from a tap. Who would have thought that at 10:00 in the morning we would be considered exotic because we drink coffee. However, the coffee was extremely good, top-notch espresso. Then we waited until 11:00 a.m., the drizzling rain stopped, and we started driving again. Once again, beautiful landscapes, once again annoying headwinds. Not as bad as yesterday, but still unpleasant. After 40 km, we reached a small town that even had an Aldi, where we bought our dinner and were happy and satisfied. After that, we only had 14 km left and were initially happy. But then strong headwinds, dark rain clouds. And what did we do? Senselessly, despite the headwinds and uphill, we increased the speed to escape the rain. We succeeded, but it was extremely exhausting. But we reached a very nice accommodation in Rigny La Nonneuse, a whole house just for ourselves, while the rain poured outside and we were dry and safe.
