The crown of Rügen, as the Hunting Lodge Granitz is often called, is located close to Binz and can be easily reached by the Rasender Roland. The steam locomotive runs between Göhren and Putbus on the island of Rügen.
In the castle, you can follow the guided tour and learn about the history of the hunting residence of the Putbus princely family. A highlight is the ascent of the main tower with its 154 steps. Once you reach the top, you have a phenomenal view over Rügen.
At the medieval festival, you could admire various stalls with jewelry, clothes, and toys. There was also plenty of food and drink available. Many crafts from old times introduced themselves and invited people to join in. Jugglers showcased their skills to an enthusiastic audience.
We bought a little bell rattle for Bruno and Steffen tried delicious mead. Of course, we also climbed the tower. The cast iron spiral staircase inspires respect when going up and down. But every step is worth it for the view.
The return journey on the Rasender Roland was once again an experience. Bruno looked at the rushing trees outside, and we could enjoy the landscape.
