After spending the past few weeks, especially in Kyrgyzstan, when it was extremely cold, imagining how nice it would be to lie in the sun on the beach under the palm trees, our journey through Sri Lanka led us there as the very first destination.
Our destination was Unawatuna, a small town - not far from the slightly more famous Galle - on the western part of the south coast.
Just half an hour after we arrived there, we spread our towels in the sand, jumped into the sea, and spent a few hours at the small bay.
Although tourism has already arrived in Unawatuna and there are hotels, restaurants, and small souvenir shops along the only narrow road, it is still relatively quiet compared to other holiday regions, and you can easily find a free spot on the sand where you can stay for a few hours!
When it got too hot for us at the beach, we hurried back to our cool hostel, right under the cold outdoor shower. That's the way to live!
On our second day in Unawatuna, we set off in the morning to a small beach area further east. It was also incredibly beautiful there, and the palm trees created a Caribbean-like setting, but the opportunity to swim was not as good.
And so we made our way to 'Jungle Beach', a secret spot that is no longer a secret!
We climbed a small hill to the other side of the bay and from there descended a rocky and steep path until we were in paradise!
In the evening, we drove to Galle, a small town on the southwestern tip, surrounded by a fortress wall, and we realized that we already had quite a sunburn - but after red comes brown, for sure!
