Had no time to write a post in the past days, so here's a little update on Flores: (now we are in Guatemala City)
This time, crossing the border to Guatemala was a bit less complicated. Pay the fee, stamp the passport, and done. No more filling out incomprehensible little papers :D
The only problem we had: How do we get out of here? As usual, we were bombarded by people trying to sell us something. In the end, we ended up taking some random bus just to get away from there and find some peace. We probably got ripped off anyway :)
Once we arrived in Flores, we immediately felt at ease. The holiday feeling came back. The city is really cute, narrow streets, small shops, and many restaurants. And the best part, everything is really cheap here. We definitely didn't go hungry, there was just so much food and it was all so delicious :D One thing to keep in mind, the tax and service charge are often not included (but it's not much :)
At 3 am, we went to the Tikal Maya Ruins which were about 1 hour away from us. A guide led us through the dark jungle to the highest pyramid to watch the sunrise. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and all we saw was fog. Too bad...
But of course, we won't let something like that spoil our mood ;) The tour with our guide was really interesting, he explained everything very well. The ruins themselves are very beautiful and we saw many animals, not like in the national park (which we could have skipped in hindsight :D)
