2nd day in Kelowna

Publicerad: 22.11.2019

On my second day in Kelowna, I decided to go hiking. The weather seemed to hold up, even though it was a bit cloudy. I actually wanted to take a bus from my hostel to the mountain. Unfortunately, I missed it by two minutes and the next one wouldn't come for another 60 minutes, so I decided to walk. This route alone took an hour.

The hiking trails in Canada are extremely well signposted, at least from below, so I quickly found my way up. The first viewpoint was very steep with many stairs. But once I arrived, I definitely didn't regret the effort. Most people I saw there had driven up by car.

Full of confidence, enthusiasm, and motivation from successfully completing the first part, I made my way to the top ;). A hiker in front of me came up with the sweet idea of writing little notes and placing them on rocks every few meters, which of course provided additional motivation :).

A sign alerted me that I might encounter bears, which made me a little uneasy and alert. I didn't see a single car coming towards me or passing by on this path. Only a few brave cyclists faced the uphill challenge and cycled up... or pushed their bikes.

So I simply followed the road and eventually reached the top, only to realize that it wasn't the viewpoint I originally intended to go to. In the end, I was extremely glad about that. The view I had there was on the other side of the mountain, not on the city but on the Okanagan Lake flowing through British Columbia. I could have spent hours here, it was so beautiful and peaceful.

With an eye on the clock, I then made my way to the other side of the mountain. This went a few more meters higher, so due to the weather, the viewing platform was covered in a layer of fog. The clouds were moving extremely fast and it was very windy, so I decided to make my way back down.

Towards the end of the day, I visited the park located around Mission Creek. In the fall, the colors of the water and the trees are said to be breathtaking. Some of it could still be seen even now.
