Kayaking on the Pelorus

Publicerad: 17.12.2017

Good morning :) So what's there to tell today...
My day starts terrible! My breakfast avocado is bad! So instead, I'm having a bread with egg and BBQ sauce. Why am I mentioning this? Quite simple, because this sauce from Gregg's tastes great with everything. If you ever fly to Australia or New Zealand, you must try it!

Once we're on the road, we miss the coastal road and still drive through a beautiful landscape on the Picton to Nelson Highway, passing many vineyards and wineries. We are particularly impressed by a field filled with barren trees. It looks like a ghost forest. Our destination, of course, is a filming location! Today it will be a waterfall where the dwarves from the second Hobbit film float by in barrels.
We park at the Peloruscafe and I discover a kayaking sign. I have to do that, I think to myself, and in no time it's booked. We are picked up and taken a few kilometers further with our guide Peter and two kayaks to the water. The water is crystal clear and on both sides of the river, it's just forest and green. Our ride is absolutely relaxing due to the wind blowing from behind us. I was actually looking forward to some exercise after all the driving, but this way we can observe nature even better and listen to the bird's chirping. Absolute idyll. Being in the water with Peter feels like an outing with friends. We talk about traveling and New Zealand. After about 2 hours on the water, we are allowed to swim in front of the famous waterfall (from the Hobbit), which at the moment consists only of a few drops of water. We can see the bottom! After a total of about 3 hours on the water, we unfortunately have to go back to our car and continue towards Nelson. We urgently need to do some shopping. In one of the aisles, we encounter a couple who are speaking Swiss German. As soon as they pass by us, Kay turns around and shouts after them! What a coincidence! It's an acquaintance that Kay knows from work and we meet at the other end of the world. Almost forgot: we treat ourselves to a camping table for 19 dollars, because it's just missing!
