Changing the tire, visiting the doctor, and shopping—this was how my Friday morning/afternoon went. After a bit of help from the internet, Luis, and a nice lady, I successfully changed my first tire! The problem was initially solved, but I will have to take care of getting a new one in the next few days since it’s just a “spare tire”.
My ear hasn’t really gotten any better. That’s why I went to the hospital, where I spent 2 hours waiting in the emergency room trying my luck elsewhere. The new doctor, more of a healer, was able to tell me that there wasn’t any water in my ear but dirt and mucus blocking the passage between my nose and ear. The only remedy now is to wait, blow my nose, and consistently take medication.
In shock, I went shopping looking for a pan and pot, but ended up finding a new outfit (pants $7, t-shirt $5, hoodie $0). Then it was time to cook and rest.
In the late afternoon, I still wanted to “see something.” So, I started the car again and drove to “Otarawairere Bay.” It’s a dreamy beach with many shells and a washed-out relief. It was beautiful and unique. After a short restroom break at Ōhope Beach, I got to admire the sunset from the lookout. It was one of my best evenings here in New Zealand.
The next day was again about work; this time I had to head towards Te Puke. After 10 exhausting hours, it was time to look for a place to sleep. I didn’t really find one, but a parking lot at Maketu Beach had to do. Before that, I was able to admire another beautiful sunset here. This showed me once again why I am doing this and what it’s worth to work for. A great feeling!
Today (20.10.24), I had another exhausting workday, but my group (Indians, Kenyans, and others) are very friendly and even share their drinks with me. This will hopefully make the work easier in the coming days. After work, I stocked up again, cooked, and took a shower. Now I’m lying on my air mattress, which isn’t quite so inflated anymore.
