Etosha - here we come!

Publicerad: 14.09.2024

460 km lie ahead of us on our way to Etosha National Park.

We drive through the Erongo Mountains, experiencing the transition from desert to savannah, and rush past a few giraffes - too quickly for a photo.

In Namibia, various natural resources are extracted, including uranium, gold, diamonds, marble, and gemstones such as tourmaline.

These industries, along with cattle farming, provide many jobs. However, the unemployment rate stands at 30%.

On our way, we stop briefly - what is there to see? A termite hill about 2.30 m high. We learn that only one-third of the entire structure is built above ground, and that the queen lays about 30,000 eggs daily. Impressive!

The role of the termite in the local ecosystem has not been clear to us so far.

As we continue our journey, the temperature rises steadily, and we are glad when we can check into our air-conditioned cottage at Toshari Lodge.

After a hearty and delicious dinner, a long day comes to an end.
