The first days pass by so quickly. And the first change of accommodation comes just as quickly. Time to say goodbye to the beach and embark on the journey to the jungle. But let's start from the beginning:
First, today we had to overcome our jet lag and get up at half past 10 (German time 5 o'clock) to pack our things and check out. Luckily, we were able to park our luggage in between and continue using the pool until departure. But first things first: Breakfast! Today something 'continental' in a small café, a 20-minute walk through the heat.
At 3:30 p.m., we were picked up by Dr. Samantha Kumara and embarked on a 2-hour journey towards Kurunegala. On the way, he stopped at some food stalls and showed us the specialties. First, Ulundu vadai, a kind of salty donuts, super delicious and still warm because freshly made. The next stall was the fruit stall, as seen in the pictures above. For drinking, there was King Coconut. The fruits in the picture (from top to bottom): Durian (pungent fruit), red Rambutan (super delicious and sweeter than the yellow variety), Lansi fruits, Mangosteen (the best!), and guavas on the right. Of course, we had to take a bag of everything (except the Durian, which is not transported by car due to its smell). At the last stall, there were Egg Hoppers - we were a bit afraid that they were grasshoppers, but reassurance! - these specialties consist of rice flour and coconut milk with an egg in the middle.
Then, finally, we arrived at the accommodation and what can we say... The location is of course fantastic, in the middle of the jungle on a slope, overlooking the sunset (pictures will follow!). The term 'daylight bathroom' takes on a whole new meaning as one wall is simply missing ;)
Now it's off to bed, until tomorrow ❤️
