December 6 - Serpentine National Park

Publicerad: 06.12.2018

Camper Mate - that's the app for New Zealand and Australia that we didn't use enough. It's basically a map with lots of information about the region you're currently in. It shows hotels, other accommodations, specialties, toilets (!), and attractions. That's how we found today's destination: Serpentine National Park.

Just to clarify: we didn't see any of the promised koalas and kangaroos. But we also didn't see any snakes. Nevertheless, it was a worthwhile trip. Waterfalls and designated hiking trails run through a valley covered with eucalyptus trees and many other plants. You can also find rare birds, parrots, and butterflies.

First, we walked to the Serpentine Falls. There was also a Tamil family there. The man took a photo of us (and I took one with his camera of his family).

After that, we walked about an hour and a half on Kitty's Gorge, a rather strenuous trail through a narrow river valley. For Stephanie, it was borderline, so we walked back.

Next, we wanted to go to the Cohunu Koala Park. But even in the app description, it was mentioned that it was a bit run-down. Unfortunately, that turned out to be true, so we saved ourselves the $30 admission fee. Besides, it seems to be more of a park for children. So, we probably didn't miss anything.

We also had to refuel. The prices here are not comparable to ours. Today, a liter of unleaded petrol cost $1.227 (they have the same three-digit idiotic prices as us). That's equivalent to 0.78 euros. Diesel is significantly more expensive, costing around $1.65, which is equivalent to 1.05 euros. From what we hear here, prices in Germany are currently a little higher.
