We spent today in Wells Gray Provincial Park , in the immediate vicinity of which our current lodge is located.
First we drove to a viewing platform, which offers an impressive view of the Dawson Falls (18 m high and 107 m wide), the waterfall of the Murtle River - also known as the small Niagara Falls. We then followed a trail, which at the end offers a view of the Helmcken Fall , the most famous and, at 141 m, highest waterfall in Wells Gray Park. In order to be able to see the spectacular waterfall from the other side of the river, we continued by car to a viewing terrace on the opposite side of the Clearwater River .
Another destination today was Ray Farm , the first and only settlement in Wells Gray Park, which is now a lost place. Some of the log buildings are still standing, and the couple who owned this farm are buried there.
On the way back to the lodge we ran into a cute ground squirrel, but unfortunately it quickly disappeared into the forest.
