Grenoble

Publicerad: 11.08.2023

Hello everyone,

Here's an update about the evening and this morning in Grenoble. Today, I have some time, WiFi, and electricity, so I'm using it to write the blog and also to plan for the future.

Yesterday evening, I arrived and Jakob picked me up directly from the parking lot. We went to Jakob's apartment and then took a short break before going sightseeing in Grenoble. Since Grenoble doesn't have a real old town, sightseeing here involves walking through the city center to the Bastille.

It has the same name as the famous church in Paris, but it's definitely not the same.

From this fountain, we started the ascent to the Bastille, which takes about 45 minutes on a path with lots and lots of steps or a gravel path. For those who prefer not to walk, there's also a cable car that was built and put into operation for the Olympic Games. And the ascent is definitely worth it! Grenoble looks really beautiful from up there. So here's a little preview spam:

We spent about 1 hour up there chatting. This route is extremely popular among all athletes, and it feels like there are 5 runners for every pedestrian going up and down the mountain. I prefer to go up and down slowly; anything else feels like running towards death for me.

Jakob's theory about why the cable cars look like this: Because of the 5 Olympic rings - I think that could be the reason, but I can't explain exactly why the cable cars look like 5 soap bubbles.

After the descent and a delicious dinner with lentil dip and French bread, I went to bed after around 30,000 steps. I was pretty tired and very grateful for the four walls of someone else's place that have temporarily become my base.

Today, we're going to a nearby climbing area. I'm very excited and looking forward to it.

See you soon,

Your Britta
