Ho Chi Minh City

Publicerad: 25.01.2019

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City in the evening. We were promised a cozy temperature of 29 degrees while on the plane, and that promise was kept.

The journey to the hotel would be an adventure for most Westerners. We were already used to the many mopeds from Hanoi. Now we were dealing with a city that has 8.5 million official residents. Consequently, there are many mopeds. Eventually, the main roads become crowded and the mopeds sometimes simply move onto the sidewalks. Who walks anyway?

In the evening, we explored the city with another couple and ended up at an oriental market, where we had a pretty good meal. Unlike before, we were politely escorted into the 'restaurant'.

After a peaceful night (the windows are pretty soundproof), we headed to the Mekong Delta the next morning. The journey through the dense traffic took a while, we avoided a traffic jam, but after about 2.5 hours, we reached the water. We were taken to an offshoot of the delta by boat, visited a former brick factory, a place where coconut caramel candies were produced, and finally a workshop for sleep mats.

We took two tuk-tuks to the restaurant. It was beautifully and spaciously designed in the form of huts. The food: wonderful once again.

We made the return journey on small rowing boats and the boat from the beginning of the tour. We took the bus through the same incredible traffic back to the hotel.

A little rest, a bit of blogging, some food, and off to bed.
