Stalin's birthday cake

Day 18 - It was very beautiful, we were very happy.😍

Before going to the airport, we explored the neighborhood behind Riga Central Station. The dominant 'skyscraper' was built in 1958 according to Stalin's taste and is popularly called 'Stalin's birthday cake' - probably because of its shape?😊🎂 Today, the Academy of Sciences is located there.

In this area, past grandeur meets originality. The widely visited Central Market stretches over five large halls, whose roofs come from Zeppelin hangars. Each hall is dedicated to a specific type of food. The fish section naturally 'smells' fishy.😊 It is striking how many smoked products there are.🔥

It is quieter near the foundations of the large synagogue that was burned down in 1941. Goosebumps despite summer heat...😔

Now we are sitting at the airport waiting for boarding. The blog is closing its gates. But: After the trip is before the trip.😉
