Leipzig – what a great surprise

Today we will explore the city. We would have had to wait a full 15 minutes for the bus, so we just started walking to find the nearest tram stop. It wasn't easy because Leipzig is currently rebuilding some streets. But it worked.

Past allotments, then a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over a highway and railway tracks into a district that was really very interesting. So many foreign greengrocers, hairdressers and various places that offered breakfast - very worth experiencing. Unfortunately, we had already enjoyed coffee and co in the RV and had no room for any more delicacies. So we kept walking to the nearest tram stop.

This took us to the train station as requested and thus into the city center. There were no crowds of people yet. Time for us to walk from one passage to the next courtyard. They are all worth seeing! A large stage had just been set up in the market - this week is the Bach Festival. That's why the weekly market was moved to Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. We found it - and I was delighted. There were, among other things, a few cheese stalls there. I particularly liked that. Unfortunately, there are no cheese factories in Leipzig and the surrounding area, said the cheese sellers, who source their goods from all over the world. "ALBRECHTS KÄSEROLLER" sells Gosen cheese from a tiny cart. It is a soft cheese that is allowed to bathe in the beer of the same name for three days. Delicious!

The old town has countless beautiful buildings with facades that are worth more than just a glance. There were so many that I couldn't photograph them all. I was thrilled by this city. Not just because of the LEIPZIGER LERCHE and the EIERSCHECKE, the THURINGIAN BRATWURST, the helpful people, the great houses - it all fit together.

We also took a trip by S-Bahn to Plagwitz to the former LEIPZIG COTTON SPINNING MILL. The huge old factory site is now used by artists and gallery owners. Old buildings worth seeing, some looking dilapidated, some renovated. There is also a restaurant and bakery on site, the MULE. Friendly staff and a garden to dream in. It is also worth stopping here for a coffee or something tasty. Easy to reach by S-Bahn.

The return journey was quicker than the outward journey because it was a regional train that took us to Leipzig. We strolled through the city once more to take photos and finally took the tram and bus to the parking space.

Still sunshine and a beer and a blister plaster to end this beautiful day.

See you soon!
