Today we had a better day. We set off at 5:40 am and walked in the mountains for almost 2 hours with a flashlight. Fiona has somewhat recovered and walking in normal temperatures doesn't bother her much. Only the midday heat is tough for her. Today at 12 pm we were already 20 km further in Puente Lassen Reina and everything is good. We took a break for over an hour at noon and covered another 5 hot km. Fiona needed a lot of breaks but she managed everything. This time she recovered much faster than yesterday. Only her paw pads are a bit scratched and sensitive. That worries me. Tomorrow we have already agreed to leave at 5 am. So we will go to sleep early. Today Fiona, Irina, and I sleep covered at a water source in the middle of the small town Maneau. As luck would have it, we met our pastor Rendy from NY here again. Today he told me that the reason for his Camino is that he and his wife cannot have children. His wife will join him in a week and they will continue together from there. He wants to adopt, but she does not. That's why there are difficulties that even as a pastor he does not know how to overcome. All hearts ❤️ are open here and everyone tells their story openly, without embellishment or distortion. You rarely encounter that in real life. So now I understand why I appreciate a friend of mine so much. She is one of these many open hearts, even though she did not experience the Camino. Jul4ik, I often think of you here and I am grateful to know you.
Today, for the first time, I saw a stall in the middle of nowhere with juice, fruits, etc. Some hippies do this and only accept a donation for it. Everything prepared with a lot of love and care. Unbelievable! Look at the pictures!
Everyone experiences their journey here as they like. Some are too tired and take a taxi to the destination. Others have their backpacks transported from place to place. Others use their partner as a means of transport, carrying their own backpack and their partner's. And today we laughed so much because one of our Italian madams went to a beauty center during the pilgrimage and then took a taxi to the hostel. To each their own Camino.
So laundry is done, we have showered. That's all we need for our happiness on the Camino. At least for us. We will go to sleep now because we have to leave early in the morning. I miss my family and from now on, I not only worry about Fiona, my own pains, but also wish to see my family again. But that will be my reward after a long journey.
