East Coast: The Green Island

Diterbitkeun: 15.10.2017

The first alarm clock rang at 5:30 a.m. After a quick breakfast, we drove to Taitung Harbor. There, we boarded a ship that would take us to Green Island. We sat down and were a bit surprised why we couldn't sit outside. We also wondered about the numerous plastic bags in the seat pockets. The ride couldn't be that bad, right?
Um... well... the ride was quite intense. I had never seen such rough waves on a ship before. In addition, the captain was not exactly slow. It was like being on a roller coaster: we were constantly in free fall. While I found the ride quite amusing, I soon noticed that the passengers around me (fortunately, not all seats were taken) were getting sick one after another. Now it wasn't so pleasant for me anymore. After a good hour, we finally reached our destination.

As soon as we got off the ship, a woman waved at us and asked if we wanted to rent scooters in 'sign language'. Since the island is very small and does not offer public transportation, scooters were a great solution. We drove around the island and stopped at various places. The nature was incredibly beautiful: deep blue to turquoise water, impressive rock formations, and diverse plant life. The weather also played along perfectly. After circling the island, we relaxed briefly at a beach and then drove around the island again, which is really very small;)

At 3:00 p.m., we took the ship back to Taitung. This time, the ride was not as intense. Back at the harbor, we realized that we had received our first parking ticket. It cost us a whopping four Swiss francs^^
Now it was time to return home. After a long six hours, we arrived safely in Taichung. But as mentioned in another report, our car did not remain intact. Unfortunately, the damage was not covered by any insurance and we had to pay the equivalent of about 500 Swiss francs to the rental company. We couldn't understand how the insurance couldn't cover this damage and tried to negotiate... without success. However, this didn't spoil our mood and the beautiful memories of the trip.

I can proudly say that I have now traveled a large part of Taiwan. Conclusion: Highly recommended!
