2 nights in a Private Game Reserve

Diterbitkeun: 05.04.2021

On Saturday, I continued directly to the Eastern Cape. Here, I spent two nights in a Private Game Reserve - an absolute highlight in every way. I already knew beforehand that this place is great, but now I was able to experience it personally. There are a total of 5 different lodges in this Game Reserve, and I had the opportunity to experience two of them - unfortunately, the others are currently closed and these two are only operated on weekends.

After a quick lunch (delicious, like all the following meals!), we went straight on the first game drive, and it was only now that I realized how big the area is.

First, we took a boat downstream for about half an hour and then drove for 2.5 hours through the nature by vehicle - there are only a few animals, as some of them are not allowed to be published for their protection.

One thing I definitely realized is that when I am scared, I start giggling uncontrollably. In short: 3 animals, part of the Big 5, blocked our path, so we had to leave (on a fairly steep gravel road) and waited in the bush for them to pass - definitely one of the highlights that I will not forget.

The next morning, we went on the next game drive at 6 o'clock, including changing accommodation, and from there we had another game drive in the afternoon and this morning - the rain couldn't stop us from another boat trip, but not many animals were seen. Fortunately, when leaving the reserve, I was still bid farewell by a few springboks.

After a short stop in Kenton-on-Sea, a small town on the coast with a wonderful beach (apparently, a hippo is currently living here), I am now heading towards Addo Elephant National Park - but more about that tomorrow!
