To Peniche via Saint Mohinio de Porto - November 21st

Diterbitkeun: 29.11.2019

We leave Nazaré in sunshine, although it was raining when we woke up. It's getting really warm and after a long time we only need a sweater, nice! We got the tip to visit Saint Mohinio de Porto. We do that, the city is only 16 km away from Nazaré. Here there is a special lagoon and accordingly a great beach bay. The sun continues to shine and we stroll with the dog along the kilometer-long sandy beach right on the promenade. The bay looks as if it were drawn with a compass, really unique.

after a nice walk we treat ourselves to a big ice cream! Jörni has a proper spaghetti ice cream, I have a nut sundae...when the thing arrives, I can hardly believe my eyes...who is supposed to eat all this??? After I have fought my way through the huge amount of whipped cream and already eaten a bag of walnuts and a bag of hazelnuts, I finally reach the ice cream with the spoon, but I can't eat anymore! Jörni has to help me, but even together we can't manage. When the waiter asks if everything is alright, I say that it is really delicious, but impossible to eat this portion. He tells me that this is the normal portion, there is also the XXL version...and there are people who can eat that...!!! Who are these people??? I can't believe it! That means they eat about a kilo of cream and 2.5 kg of nuts before they eat a kilo of ice cream...crazy! Anyway, I give up on the normal version and I'm out of this...!

We stroll, or rather roll, through the town one more time and then we continue to Peniche.

Here we find the cheapest municipal campground ever! Everything included for €5.70, unbelievable! We are recommended to look for a spot in the lower section, because it is supposed to be quite windy at night...will do!

We take another walk with the dog and then the day is almost over. I go to bed early, it's too windy outside and finally continue reading my book about Gorbachev, while Jörni enjoys the wind!

Then a stormy and wet night follows!

In the morning it is still raining and you really don't want to go out. So for a change we laze around until half past nine in the morning before it's worth getting up and going to the bathroom.

We can have breakfast outside, though, before we go to the city with the bikes! We stroll around a bit, have a delicious cappuccino and enjoy the mild temperatures of 16 degrees. In between showers and then sunshine again.

Since I can't stand my hat anymore, I decide to visit a hairdresser and buy a new hat just in case! Done! For the hairdresser prices here Jörni and I could each get our hair cut five times...really cheap! It's stupid to go to the hairdresser in Norway...!

Then it gets windy again and we make ourselves a good sandwich in the bus before going to bed at 8 PM! I use the time to write, Jörni to sleep! Well then, good night!

In the morning it is less windy and the sun is shining on us, yay! We have a delicious breakfast, sit in the sun and think about where to walk. We choose Praia de Supertubos. That sounds promising. There is not much going on at the beach, even though it's Saturday. We walk along the sea, wearing sunglasses, and enjoy the mild temperatures, great! For the way back we take the path through the dune landscape and the subsequent steppe.

Back at the bus, we immediately mount the bikes and ride to the Supermercato. After a phone call with my sister today, where she reported what they had to eat, we are craving homemade mashed potatoes (not from the machine...), spinach and fish sticks! When was the last time we cooked like that...ages ago! It was a feast...delicious! Then off to bed, a bit of perestroika and glasnost and then close your eyes, before we continue to Lisbon the next day!
