My time in New Zealand was exciting, diverse, educational and simply breathtakingly wonderful! Even in my last week, I had the opportunity to experience many interesting things.
We had a great group with whom we did a lot together. An exciting insight into Maori culture was the overnight stay at Lake Anewhenua, where we took a tour of the lands, attended a workshop to learn the famous Haka and had a truly traditional Hangi meal. The next morning, we visited Kerosene Creek, where we could bathe our feet or more in the warm/hot water.
After a short lunch stop in Taupo (McDonald's on the plane), we continued with 2 nights at Blue Duck Station, which is in the middle of nowhere on the North Island.
There, we finally had the time to relax with a book. Of course, there was also a wide range of activities available, but Cat and I decided to go to Blue Duck Falls on our own. A bonfire and an 'after work beer' were also part of the program.
The next day, we started early in the morning as we made our way to Tongariro Crossing. The hike was worth it in every way, and Mount Doom is just as impressive in real life as it is in the movie. 😁
After this day hike, we enjoyed a cozy evening at Snowy Waters Lodge in Raetehi and were able to relax.
Our last evening together, we celebrated in Wellington after exploring the botanical garden. 🍀😂🕺💃
After this evening, our group went separate ways. Some stayed in Wellington, others continued to the South Island, and I got on a plane and flew to Auckland. There, I spent a beautiful and cozy day and prepared for my journey home. Switzerland, here I come! 😉
