Day 1: Hanoi

Diterbitkeun: 08.11.2018

Good morning,

It is now 10:00 am here- and we simply didn't manage to write the blog yesterday due to various things 🤫🤭

After waking up, we took a relaxed shower. The shower occasionally fluctuated between ice-cold and scalding hot, but it was still manageable 😂. On the other hand, the bed is really comfortable and the air conditioning is working, which is important here 😎.

After that, we had breakfast, which was included in the hostel price and actually really good (Lara had fried eggs, Jasna had an omelette). They even have coffee here all day, free of charge, heaveeeen 🙏🏽.

Once we were ready with breakfast and getting ourselves ready, we made our way through the Old Quarter, to Hoan Kiem Lake and to a temple. Then we had to go and have some coffee, which is highly recommended here, they really know how to make coffee 🙏🏽☕. And the smoothies are really good too. The air here is just really bad (we can understand why they wear masks here) and there are so many scooters. But at least you can hear them here, which makes it easier not to get run over 🤷🏽‍♀😂. However, it is still somewhat miraculous to cross the street on foot and arrive unharmed. And thaaank god, English is really not a problem here (unlike in China, here almost everyone understands what you want 🙏🏽😂).

The only disadvantage of our trip is that our brains really don't function anymore. Yesterday afternoon, we temporarily forgot that we booked a flight for December (to Cambodia) on Saturday. Neither of us could remember at all, despite having a note about the money and a bank transfer with the reference "flight". We had no clue anymore 🤷🏽‍♀😂. But hey, it can happen 🤓.

After refreshing most of our memories, we went out again to buy a SIM card, easy cheesy here, €5.60 for 4GB per day for one month 🤙🏾.

Back at the hostel, we had to shower again because of the high humidity here 🚿. Then we went straight to the street food stall across from us to have some food (really delicious 🤤) and then to the bar street.

There we met Gonzalo and Nicolas, two Argentinians. At first, we really wanted to guess where the two were from, but we simply didn't know. They didn't sound Spanish (it was a kind of Spanish, but slightly different) and they didn't look like it either 😂. But in return, they immediately knew that we were from Germany and even correctly guessed the region (a bit creepy but ok 🤔😂). We had some drinks with them. (By the way, Argentinians tease Spaniards because of their "s" when they speak, so don't mix it up 😂😂)

After the street was cleared three times by the police, we wanted to see what the club was like. Our conclusion: the Vietnamese apparently start partying really early, as the clubs and bars close at 1 am 😂.

But it was still quite funny in the end ✌🏾.

In this sense, bye with ö 👋🏾😁

(By the way - regarding the beer - the beer tastes milder than in Germany - so no danger that we'll come back and drink German beer 😂😂 you can keep your beer 🍺👍🏽) nevertheless, quite funny. The beer has multiple different labels (for whatever reason), it's the same beer, and some have a higher percentage on them - others have a lower one 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 no one seems to care here 🤫
