On the third Sunday of Advent, we headed to our last stop before Bangkok, the island of Koh Tao. Very early, the van started towards the coast, where we changed to a ferry to reach the island. We were looking forward to the ride, but at that time we didn't know that the worst minutes of the trip were ahead of us...
There was very rough seas and the relatively small boat was tossed around wildly. The sides of the ferry were sometimes completely under water and the bow was mostly covered in water. In the beginning, the passengers still had fun, but this rocking lasted for over two hours. Soon, the crew started passing out plastic bags and soon enough, our half of the boat needed them too. The noises and smells were almost unbearable alongside the rocking and it nearly finished us off. However, I had taken two motion sickness tablets later, which helped me get through it. We arrived at an island and had to change to a second ferry - and the fun started all over again, even worse than before. It was a real horror ride and now sudden screams and calls for a doctor came from the back of the ship, as something had fallen onto a man. I have to honestly admit that I felt so miserable in that moment and my thoughts were so unclear that I couldn't turn around to see if I could have helped. But the man was stable again after the crossing and was taken to a doctor in a wheelchair.
That was it, our horror ride to the island of Koh Tao, I simply don't think about the return journey yet. Since the monsoon season is still ongoing here, we were also greeted by clouds, but it remained dry in the afternoon, which is why we took a short break in the hostel and walked a little around the island and looked for a restaurant in the evening. There we met two fellow sufferers from our crossing again and spent the evening at the beach until it was time for bed.
The next morning, we went for a long walk after a heavy downpour in the morning. It led us across the island to a viewpoint, where we had a great view of a group of islands near the main island.
At the viewpoint
On the further way, the sun even came out a little and we climbed up a mountain. Actually, there should still be a viewpoint there, but we only found a small pagoda with a Buddha in front of it.
On the further way, we simply couldn't find this viewpoint, but only reached a construction site once. In this way, we saw a lot of the island - let's see it positively. We relaxed on the beach for a bit in the last rays of the day before heading out for dinner and sitting down in a beach bar with the two acquaintances from the crossing, where we were treated to a fire show. It was very spectacular and occasionally took place on a rope stretched between two rocks. I had the opportunity to practice jumping in the fire rope, which two men from the show offered and swung the burning rope.
Afterwards, we went to another club where we partied the rest of the evening until it closed and then we returned to the beach bar with the fire show. In the middle of the night, we had to walk back to the hostel which was a long walk, and then we crawled tired into our beds.
