Today was a terrible day!
In Akaroa, I started my day at 26 degrees, had breakfast in a small French cafe, enjoyed the last sights of Akaroa, and then headed south.
My plan was always: go wherever you like, find a room!
THAT DOESN'T WORK HERE AND NOW!
With every kilometer towards the south, the weather got worse! I arrived in Oamaru in pouring rain with only 13 degrees, and immediately went to the i-store (tourist information).
Many others had the same idea! Everyone with the same strategy as me.
I quickly learned that the south of the island is completely booked out. Or rooms are available for ten times the normal price! After some searching, the very nice lady found a room for me. However, it was 65km away! In Palmerton! More on that later.
By 6 pm, we had the only restaurant in this town, a fish and chips, kebab, burger place, closing at 7 pm!
So I had to find something on the way. All the recommendations from the i-store ladies were closed. So I stopped at the nearest supermarket, bought some beer for comfort and a sandwich.
I must have looked so pitiful that the two saleswomen, after a brief consultation, found a restaurant for me. Sooo kind!
That's how I ended up at the Moeraki Tavern.
Very tasty home cooking at reasonable prices!
Food can de-escalate and affect the negative mood!
Now just 30 km and then I'll be at my truck stop.
