Stage 18 El Saler —> Benicàssim 95 KM (Total 4722 KM)
Next, we have the seaside town of Roses, just before the French border, as our destination. The route takes us through the heart of Valencia and then onto the highway. While we are on the road, Heidi checks the daily temperatures of our new destination and they are 5-6 degrees below the temperatures we have been used to, which is 27-28 degrees - very chilly 🥶 😊. We decide that we don't want to be 🥶, so we stop at the next rest area and find a new destination nearby - our choice is Benicàssim.
Benicàssim welcomes us with a stunning panorama of the beach promenade and the sea. Our campsite is 500m from the beach, built on terraces, and has a nice large pool. The beach is perfect for children under 10 and adults over 70, you can easily walk 300m into the sea and only be up to your waist in water 😂.
We explore the surroundings with our 🚲 and come across a bike path (Via Verde) that was built on a disused railway track. It leads through partially untouched nature and tunnels to the next town, Orpesa, and is a real highlight. Orpesa is a concrete eyesore from the 70s, but it has a great beach and when looking towards the sea, you don't see the eyesores 🙄😊. We notice the restaurant Chulvi, which is the only place in the area that is very busy, and we eat a truly excellent Paella Mixta there 🥘 😋.
After 4 days, we say goodbye to the cozy town of Benicàssim and the mosquitoes, which have bothered us for the first time during our long journey ☺️😉.
