Hello friends, after my hiking day yesterday, I decided to take a small tour today and drove a bit into the hinterland to get to the Hokitika George Track. This is a totally beautiful tour, which is actually a loop track but can now only be walked from one side due to bridge work (similar to the Blue Pools). But at least the actual endpoint and thus the most beautiful part of the trail can still be reached normally.
And the first light shimmer of the river was simply breathtaking. I didn't know that water could have such a rich and even unnaturally turquoise color - simply unbelievably beautiful!
Furthermore, the trail is so beautifully laid out that it really is just a walk through another world! Unfortunately, you may see some pictures a bit blurred, as my camera cover had a big scratch. But since I didn't have a replacement with me, I had to wait until I find a shop that can replace the cover. That unfortunately took until Christchurch, but I hope that the pictures still capture a small part of the beautiful nature.
As you know me, I was very tempted to take a lively step into the cool water. However, this time I paid attention to the signs and swimming here is not advisable due to whirlpools and underground caves. Some people have even drowned here. So just look, don't touch!
In addition to a few other tourists, there was also a very trusting Fantail here. A small New Zealand bird that accompanies me briefly on every hike. Very very cute and bold little birds.
After enjoying the view and playing a bit with the Fantail, it was time to head back to the starting point and then walk a bit on the loop track from the other side. From here, I could also view the previous spot from above. The bridge that goes across the river here is the one currently under maintenance.
After a few hours at this wonderful spot on earth, I continued along the west coast towards the north. I will summarize the short stops I made on the tour in the next post, as these stops cannot compare to this natural wonder of Hokitika George. ;)
So until the next post,
Yours Britta
