The journey is the destination! This should definitely be the motto for the bus rides here.
It was definitely another wild journey that started at 5 am in the morning and ended at 5:30 pm in Tortuguero. But we didn't see the point in booking a shuttle for $65 per person. With the public buses, we probably spent around $15 per person.
Anyway, it was a wild tour and we arrived at the La Pavona boat dock at 4:28 pm, from where you take a one-hour boat ride to Tortuguero. That's the only way to get there, except maybe by plane. 😂 4:28 pm was so important because the last boat leaves at 4:30 pm. We were incredibly lucky that we were approached by a woman at the previous location - when we were trying to explain to a taxi driver where we wanted to go, he didn't speak English and we didn't speak Spanish either - who also wanted to go there, so we could ride together for $6 and still catch the boat.
We arrived in Tortuguero with a great sense of relief and in the evening, by chance, we met an acquaintance of mine from Germany and had a beer together.
