With the second full day in Pasadena, we are already approaching the home stretch of our journey. The weekend is just around the corner, along with our last two concerts in Pasadena and Los Angeles.
After yesterday's day of sightseeing and excursions, today the focus was back on music. We started the day with a breakfast using disposable tableware, which has become strangely familiar by now. Then, we had a rehearsal in the nearby Catholic church in the morning. We used the time to fine-tune some details and focus on the upcoming concerts. Two hours later, we stepped out of the dim church into the typical bright midday sun to rest individually and find lunch. By now, we can claim to be quite familiar with the selection of fast food restaurants along Colorado Boulevard, although opinions on the local way of dining are divided.
In the afternoon, we met for the first time the next partner choir of our journey: the Chamber Choir of Pasadena City College! In the joint rehearsal, we were able to overcome the challenges of German pronunciation, 'snap and clap' together, and find the trinity in Lauridsen's music. Furthermore, we were once again reminded of the differences between a community college and our choir. The impressive and modern buildings on expansive grounds with great facilities are contrasted by tight schedules, part-time jobs, and many obligations, even though in this case no fees have to be paid for two years.
For the evening, which was free time, we split up again individually. Some took another small trip into the city, others went to an original American cinema, and a small group attended a concert in the impressive Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Thus, another jam-packed day came to an end, and we are now very excited for the upcoming grand finale of our journey!
