21.04. Remote beaches, islands, and a little history

Diterbitkeun: 21.04.2018

During our tour off the beaten tourist path, we passed by some more remote dream beaches (e.g. Tauranga and Matauri Bay). There were always new and special views of the island world.

In Matauri Bay, there is the wreck of the Greenpeace ship 'Rainbow Warrior' (was blown up by the French secret service in the 80s). Today, the wreck is a diver's paradise. Only a memorial still reminds of it. Some recent history came alive.

Another short detour to Waitangi, which is historically significant for New Zealand, where the treaty between the English and the Maori was concluded in the 19th century, granting equal rights to the Maori.

To end the day, a sundowner in the beer garden with a special view of the Kerikeri Basin...
